The mission of the Department of Children, Youth and Families is to utilize high quality, comprehensive social services that strengthen the family’s ability to provide for the safety and well-being of each child. The Department of Children, Youth and Families is responsible for assessing and investigating reports of child abuse and neglect. On-going services are provided for families as needed as well as foster care placement. The care of dependent and/or neglected children is a shared responsibility and the family is seen as the primary source for the care and nurturing of children.
