Position Summary:
CTLM has a variety of student positions that function as key members of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring (CTLM) at Arcadia, and are an integral part of the student-centered pedagogical approach that is a cornerstone of the Center. Together with Faculty/Staff CTLM Fellows and Project Partners, they develop and implement innovative teaching, learning, and mentoring projects, support engaged and inclusive pedagogies on campus, support peer mentoring efforts across campus, and collaborate with other faculty, staff, and students to assist in creating meaningful teaching, learning and mentoring at Arcadia.
CTLM Graduate Assistants will have opportunities to take leadership roles at the center as part of a collaborative team. Some possibilities might include data analysis, assisting with teaching a course, supporting Teaching and Learning Circles (TLCs), mentoring undergraduate students, and leadership for specific CTLM projects. We are also interested in tailoring the position to the particular talents and skills of graduate students in a variety of programs across campus. All graduate students are encouraged to apply regardless of program.
Responsibilities of CTLM Graduate Assistants
- Attend twice-monthly CTLM Team Meetings, as well as meetings for specific projects you’re leading or participating in (approximately 6-8 hours/month)
- Co-design, support, and implement innovative teaching, learning, and mentoring projects to address department/discipline-specific needs, anti-racism and inclusion, community-building and student engagement
- In collaboration with Faculty/Staff CTLM Fellows and other Student CTLM Fellows, participate in planning and discussion about teaching, learning, and mentoring priorities on campus
- Provide student perspectives and ideas about particular courses and co-curricular learning opportunities on campus
- Contribute a total of 8 hours/week to CTLM
- Bring collaborative energy, talent, and insight to particular CTLM projects as listed below.
Current CTLM Projects* include:
- Inclusive Excellence Collaborations with STEM and First-Year Seminars
- Praxis for Teaching Race (PTR)
- Mutual Learning Communities (Teaching and Learning Circles [TLC], Professional Learning Circles [PLC])
- Student Pedagogical Consultants (SPC)
- Mid-semester Feedback Consultants (MSF)
- Newsletter and Communications (including audi/visual/podcasting/social media and other formats)
- Community events such as Lunch-and-Learn series, May Workshops, and others as they are identified
- Contribution to scholarly journals and conferences on Teaching, Learning & Mentorship
Requirements:
- Current Graduate Student at Arcadia University
- Particular interest and expertise in one or more of the CTLM GA duties or projects and responsibilities outlined above
- Previous experience with collaboration, student leadership, teaching, tutoring, and/or mentoring a plus
- A desire to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff and a willingness to engage in dialogue, give and receive constructive feedback, develop leadership skills, and take initiative.
- A sensitivity to diversity in all of its forms and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility, and cooperative spirit.
