Job Description: PEER ACADEMIC COACH

Duties
Maintain academic coaching caseload of undergraduate students. Meeting 1:1 or in a group setting with students on a weekly or biweekly basis. Topics to be included in sessions may include:
– Planning and setting goals;
– Building organizational strategies, time management, and prioritizing skills;
– Developing strategies which help to maintain motivation, focus, and concentration;
– Establishing structured methods for academic reading and note-taking;
– Fostering effective and efficient study habits;
– Directing students on how to properly utilize Arcadia University resources;
– Assessment of strengths and weaknesses;
– Increasing students’ self-knowledge and self-advocacy skills;
– Listening to student needs, observing behavioral patterns, and providing feedback;
– Providing structure, support, and encouragement.
- Attend and participate in supervision meetings with Student Learning Coordinator & Academic Coach.
- Participate in ongoing staff training on topics related to academics, disabilities, career planning, and other issues as they arise.
- Keep detailed records of student attendance and progress.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in an Arcadia University Master’s or Doctoral program related to counseling, psychology, public health, or education.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- History of good conduct and academic standing.
Desired
- Experience providing academic support services such as tutoring, peer mentoring, or other related skills.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong academic skills and habits to model for students.
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
- Ability to clearly explain information in multiple ways.
- Ability to quickly establish rapport with students.
- Ability to provide an empathetic, patient, and compassionate environment.
- Good working knowledge of Google Suite, Canvas, and other Arcadia websites.
Time commitment
- 8 hours per week (two evening shifts spanning from 5 PM – 9 PM)
- Expected to be available during typical evening times for undergraduate students
- Begin coaching by the 2nd week of the Fall 2025 semester
- Attend 2 hour training during the first week of the semester
- Attend bi-weekly team meetings
