Job Description:
This is a full-time (10 month) position to assist the classroom teacher in the implementation of an instructional program and best practices.
Position requirements:
- Associates Degree in related filed and/or PA Certificate of Competency for Paraprofessionals
- Experience with special needs students within the classroom
Responsibilities may include:
-working with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
– monitoring student work, correct papers and supervise testing.
– performing clerical duties and classroom maintenance
– assisting with activities such as snack time and bathroom breaks.
– may consult with the team that creates the individual education plan (IEP) for a special education student
– providing feedback and monitors progress of the students assigned to the paraprofessional
Other considerations:
Special education paraprofessionals must have the emotional maturity to work with students who have special needs. They must be patient, dependable and hardworking. They must follow the directions of the teacher and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. They must have basic English and Math skills to assist students with assignments. Special education paraprofessionals must maintain confidentiality with respect to information about students.
