Job description

Overview
Georgia Outdoor News (GON) is seeking a skilled Editor to assist in sourcing and producing hunting, fishing, and related outdoor content for its monthly publication, website, social media, e-newsletter, and other media channels. The successful candidate will be passionate about the outdoors, possess a strong work ethic, and have the ability to produce engaging outdoor content while meeting frequent deadlines.

Founded in 1987, Georgia Outdoor News (GON.com) is the oldest and most respected outdoor publication and online source of hunting and fishing news in Georgia. It publishes a monthly magazine received by thousands of loyal subscribers and is also sold at nearly 1,000 retail locations. GON also reaches hundreds of thousands of sportsmen and women each month through its active social, web, and digital platforms. Additionally, GON hosts an annual outdoor show called the “GON Outdoor Blast” that is attended by thousands of outdoor enthusiasts.

Responsibilities
· Writing and producing feature and news articles, including research and photography, for print, social, web, and e-newsletter

· Meeting a monthly deadline for Georgia Outdoor News magazine

· Helping decide which articles, videos, and photos to publish and on which GON platform

· Working with other editors, free-lance writers, and social media influencers

· Reviewing written content for factual and grammatical errors

· Serving as a brand guardian for GON’s written and digital content

· Developing and maintaining relationships with key individuals, companies, agencies, associations, and other core constituencies

· Attending and participating in hunts, fishing trips and events like GON’s Outdoor Blast, Antler Scoring Days and field days.

Experience & Skills
· A passion for and experience with hunting, fishing, and the outdoors in Georgia

· A proven ability to create engaging and accurate hunting, fishing, or outdoor content

· A strong work ethic with the ability to manage a large workload and multi-task

· Experience with magazine/web layout, design, style, and tone

· Detail-oriented, highly organized, and a familiarity with A/P style

· A solid background and understanding of social media and website management

· Proficiency with office applications and aptitude for learning new software and systems

· A willingness to reside in close proximity to Watkinsville, Georgia

· A willingness and ability for frequent travel (mostly in state while capturing content)
