Who We Are
GO Magazine is the nation’s most widely distributed free LGBTQ+ women’s print and online publication. Based in New York City, GO was founded in 2002 to provide “a cultural roadmap for city girls everywhere.” Now in its 22nd year, GO has distributed well over two million print copies nationally and continues to reach millions more online each year. GO remains dedicated to educating and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community by providing extensive editorial coverage to women making a difference within and beyond our community, as well as providing our readers with essential information regarding culture, entertainment, travel, political and social issues and so much more.

The Position:
GO Magazine is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic editorial interns for the Spring 2025 semester. Interns will take on a variety of daily duties as well as contribute extensively to our print and online editorial coverage. Interns will be given the opportunity to work closely with our senior writers and editors, as well as edit, write assigned content, and pitch proposed content. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist with social media and design projects, conduct on-site coverage of relevant NYC events, and receive invaluable hands-on experience with print magazine production.
The duration of the internship program is 12 weeks with an approximate start date of January 27th and an approximate end date of April 18th. (dates are approximate as we’ll make every effort to work with our interns’ individual class schedules.) Interns will work two full days (16 hours in total) per week during the semester in our Manhattan office and will also have the opportunity attend and cover exciting off-premises community events on behalf of the magazine.
Compensation: Interns will be paid at a rate of $18.00 per hour. Interns will also as receive a monthly MTA MetroCard to facilitate transportation to and from our Manhattan office. In addition, and if available through our interns’ respective colleges and universities, GO will provide the necessary documentation for school credit if desired.
Who You Are:
- You have a background and interest in journalism and a knowledge of and/or strong interest in LGBTQ+ culture and media
- You possess excellent skills as a journalist: reporting, researching, fact checking and writing clean copy
- You’re a detail-oriented self-starter who enjoys working both independently and in a team setting
- You’re majoring in English, Journalism, or another field where writing skills can be demonstrated
- You have knowledge of and interest in pop-culture, culture in general and social media trends.
- You’re comfortable navigating New York City via MTA subways or buses
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age two weeks prior to the start of the internship
- Applicants must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree during the length of the program
- Applicants must have a current class standing of second semester freshman (having successfully completed their first semester) or above
- Applicants must be committed and available to work for the entire length of the program
- Applicants must have access to own housing and transportation to/from the GO Magazine office
- Applicants must have at least one year of journalism experience. Student or professional publications, personal blogs, or published freelance writing will all be considered
- Applicants must be in academic good standing (3.0 or above cumulative GPA) A transcript will be required to verify your GPA if an offer is extended
- GO Magazine will only consider candidates who are presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and who will not require work visa sponsorship from GO Magazine now or in the future in order to retain their authorization to work in the United States. Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa, including F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1, etc., will not be eligible for the internship program
