Holocaust Museum LA is seeking a Survivor Engagement Coordinator to join its Education team and play a pivotal role in preserving, connecting, and amplifying Holocaust survivors’ legacies. This role involves building meaningful relationships with survivors, coordinating their participation in Museum programs, and integrating their stories into educational and commemorative initiatives. This position focuses on fostering meaningful relationships, preserving survivors’ legacies, and ensuring the stewardship of their legacy.
Reporting to the Education Project Manager, the Survivor Engagement Coordinator at Holocaust Museum LA plays an essential role in connecting Holocaust survivors with the Museum’s educational programs and also collaborates with curatorial and archival staff to document survivor narratives, support intergenerational, innovative projects like the Survivor Wisdom Project, and ensure these vital stories reach diverse audiences through social media, archives, and student programs.
The ideal candidate will have an ability to engage and inspire younger generations to connect with survivor stories, be interested in developing new ways to preserve and amplify survivor narratives, and a deep understanding of the Holocaust’s historical and educational significance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with Holocaust survivors involved in Museum programming.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for survivor participation in programs, events, and initiatives.
- Coordinate speakers for student tours and programs.
- Collaborate with the Education team to integrate survivor stories into Museum programming.
- Coordinate and implement special initiatives, such as Survivor Wisdom Project, Spoken Name Memorial, and those that amplify survivor narratives.
- Work closely with curatorial and archival staff to document and exhibit survivor stories, artifacts, and oral histories for future generations.
- Support innovative projects that preserve and share survivors’ legacies, including those on social media, for archives, and student programs.
Qualifications:
- Professional experience in a relevant field of work or study such as history, education, public history, or museum work.
- Experience working with elders and/or teens with exceptional empathy and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage timelines, coordinate schedules, and implement multi-faceted projects efficiently with strong organization and time-management and attention to detail skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, basic video and audio editing tools, project management tools, and basic digital storytelling platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Familiarity with documenting oral histories and/or working with those who experienced traumatic history.
WORKING SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm. May involve working some evenings and weekends. This position is hybrid, although primarily in the Museum.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
The Survivor Engagement Coordinator has an annual salary range of $48,000 – $53,000, based on experience and other qualifications. Generous PTO includes vacation and paid holidays, and health benefits.
