Nanofabrication Research Intern
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and skilled intern to join our team as a Nanofabrication Research Intern. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in the fabrication of our cutting-edge devices, working alongside our experienced team. As a Nanofabrication Research Intern, you will be involved in the intricate processes of device fabrication, utilizing advanced techniques and state-of-the-art equipment. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to innovative projects in the field of nanotechnology.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Proficiency in nanofabrication techniques
- Experience with photolithography, including both thick negative and positive resists
- Skills in both dry and wet etching processes
- Capability in debugging and developing fabrication processes
- Fabrication experience with photonic and optical parts or microfluidic devices
- Expertise in 3D printing of micro parts
- Proficiency with measurement tools such as profilometer and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM)
- Experience with imaging tools like regular microscopes and Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM)
Desirable Knowledge and Experience:
- Fabrication of waveguides
- Knowledge in optics and photonics
- Experience with waveguide testing and optical testing
- Skills in Python and image processing
- Ability in manufacturing and fabrication debugging
Qualifications:
- Preferred Majors: MS or PhD student in nanofabrication, microfluidics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, biomedical engineering, or any related field.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Candidates must meet at least one of the following:
- Currently pursuing an MS or PhD at a Maryland university with a GPA of>2.5.
- Graduated from a Maryland university with a BS, MS, or PhD in <12 months.
Duration:
- Duration: This internship can span 1-2 semesters.
- Hours: 220 hours per semester.
- Location: On-site (College Park, MD and Rockville, MD)
- Attendance: Required on fixed days of the week.

- There is a high potential for a well-performing intern to become a full-time employee at the end of the internship term.
