New Jersey Spine Specialists (NJSS) is a spine surgery practice located in northern New Jersey is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Nurse) to join our collaborative team. NJSS has its main office located at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ, with a satellite office at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ.
The practice has both Orthopedic and Neurosurgical spine specialists who are all fellowship trained and experienced. This is an excellent opportunity for both new graduates and more experienced providers interested in the full spectrum of spine surgical spine care. All the necessary training will be provided.

Position Overview:
The Advanced Practice Provider will work closely with our orthopedic and neurosurgery surgeons across all aspects of care, including outpatient clinic, inpatient management, operative assistance, and perioperative planning. This role includes first and second-assisting in the OR, rounding and consults in hospital settings, and contributing to both clinical and administrative workflows.

Primary Responsibilities:
Inpatient Care
• Daily rounding, post-op checks, discharges, and patient transfers
• Surgical wound assessment and medical documentation
• Order entry, medical documentation, and coordination of care
• Emergency room and inpatient consults during business hours
Outpatient Clinic
• Perform patient intakes, history and physicals (H&P) using SBAR format
• Collaborate with physicians to develop and execute treatment plans
• Manage routine post-operative care, wound checks, and follow-ups
• Address patient inquiries and coordinate managed care services
Surgical First/Second Assist
• Operating room preparation, patient positioning, and instrumentation setup
• Surgical exposure, anatomy/pathology identification, and intraoperative support
• Wound closure, dressing application, and PACU handoff
Preoperative Planning
• Complete and manage H&Ps, consent forms, and surgical documentation
• Coordinate with hospital staff, vendors, and OR teams for case setup
Office-Based Duties
• Conduct patient follow-ups, intake visits, and postoperative evaluations
• Provide health maintenance care and prescription management
• Respond to patient inquiries via phone, email, and online platforms
Administrative & Clerical Support
• Maintain and update patient EMRs (office and hospital-based systems)
• Assist with MIPS compliance and quality tracking
• Assist medical supply inventory and orthotic/equipment organization
• Complete disability and work restriction forms in collaboration with the surgeon
• Assist with teaching of rotating PA students from 3 graduate programs.

Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program
• NCCPA or NP board certification (or eligible)
• Licensure (or eligibility) in the state of New Jersey
• Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
• Interest in spine surgery and willingness to be trained
