VOX ATL welcomes applicants to apply to serve as a VMC Near Peer intern to support summer programming at VOX ATL. VOX Media Café provides hands-on media making, guest speakers, and shared learning opportunities for a small cohort of VMCers. Interns will have the opportunity to facilitate meetings and workshops, support story production, create a welcoming VOXy environment, connect with and engage VMCers, and continue to develop their own professional leadership skills.

This role is ideal for someone who is looking to continue to build their own journalism skills while providing mentorship and support to others doing the same. This role is great for those who enjoy working collaboratively in an intergenerational environment and enjoy being a part of a project from start to finish.

Schedule & Compensation:

  • This is a five-week-long internship that begins on Tuesday, May 26, and will end on the final day of programming, Friday, June 26, 2026. The required hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m, Monday through Friday. This position averages 30 hours per week.
  • Training for the internship will be held at the VOX ATL office from Tuesday, May 26, to Thursday, May 28, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and on Friday, May 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • This position will require in-person leadership, so the intern should be able to work from the VOX ATL office.
  • You will track your time using VOX’s time-tracking process; compensation is $10/hour for up to 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Help facilitate journalism workshops and group activities for a cohort of 10-12 VMCers. This includes facilitating the daily welcome (go-around question, icebreaker/energizer, agenda overviews, introduction of guest speakers), journalism education workshops, and closing out the day (reflections, announcements, important reminders for the next day).
  • Create and maintain a VOXy safe and welcoming environment that upholds VOX ATL values and helps participants to feel free to use their voice.
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to VMC participants
  • Work alongside VMC teen interns, providing support and near-peer mentorship
  • Support VMCers as a story coach. Help them work through creative blocks, develop their story ideas, and assist and support them during story production.
  • Work with VMCers to prepare them for presentation day by giving feedback and encouragement.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be 18-23 years old and must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must have experience in journalism and creating media, either through VOX ATL or elsewhere. Applicants must be willing to support positive youth development and principles of power-sharing.

Deadline to apply: Friday, February 6. Please complete the application using the link below. Applicants will be asked to participate in a virtual or in-person interview. If selected, applicants will report directly to the Program Director.
