Learn the power of raising student aspirations. Every day, teachers are leading classes of young people to make real gains in their education and positive change in our community.
One of the aspects of teaching that many Teach for Australia teachers find the most fulfilling is interacting with the broader community and working to create lasting change. Our aim is to improve academic performance, raise aspirations, create positive attitudes to learning and increase access to opportunities for all students.
This might happen locally, through coaching the school sports team, or running excursions and extra-curricular activities. Or it might be through working with the broader school or Teach For Australia Alumni community to influence the whole system. Teachers get to lead both inside and outside the classroom.
In this program, you will be asked to work with the broader community in two different ways. First, you will be asked to plan an excursion to a university as part of your school’s initiative to increase access to higher education. Your goal is to inspire and enable more students to attend university. Second, you’ll be asked to think big, and take advantage of your community and networks to create a long term plan to help more students undertake further study.
This program is self-paced. It takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
