Duties of a Lenox Pool Lifeguard
To ensure the safety of all pool patrons, a lifeguard at the Lenox Pool shall be responsible for the following:
- Attending all training sessions
- These will be held at the beginning of each semester, and around the midpoint of each semester.
- These sessions are designed to revamp all skills and provide an open platform for questions and updates.
- Additional training sessions may be required if any of the policies are repeatedly becoming an issue.
- Opening of the pool
- Properly unlocking appropriate locker room doors
- Conduct water test
- Conduct thorough walkthrough of the pool deck
- Ensuring all patrons, including swimmers coming for practice, are not utilizing the doors near the Lenox Pool lobby for entrance.
- The exception to this is outside rental groups who should enter from the Lenox Pool lobby.
- The use of all electronic devices and headphones while you are the head lifeguard are strictly prohibited.
- The secondary guard may use electronic devices, but must be able to respond to an emergency without distraction should one come up.
- The secondary guard may not use headphones
- Supervising swimming activities at the aquatic facility and ensuring safety procedures, guidelines and policies are followed
- When anybody is in the pool the head lifeguard must be on stand, or directly poolside at attention to the water.
- Warning patrons of unsafe activities and enforcing water safety guidelines and pool regulations
- Providing first aid in the event of injury, rescuing swimmers in danger or distress, and administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or artificial respiration
- Conducting water tests and appropriately logging results every 4 hours during each shift.
- This starts with opening of the pool by the lifeguard
- Supervising and assisting in cleaning equipment and facilities
- Reporting any issues to the Aquatic Director
- Closing of the pool
- Ensure all exterior and locker room doors are properly shut and locked
- Conduct final walkthrough of the deck
- Alert the building manager via walkie talkie that guards are off-duty and the pool is closed
