Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) is looking to hire several weekend-only students to help our Event Management team provide technology support for on-campus events. This type of support will include (but may not be limited to):
- Supporting classroom, meeting and event spaces with installed technology solutions
- Supporting event spaces with supplemental technology, such as: Microphone/Speaker setups, TV/Computers on carts, Projectors and projection screens
- Supporting events and meetings that require broadcast over Zoom.
Many events will have the following support format for student workers:
- Show up at the scheduled time to boot up the space’s equipment and/or set up portable technology. (If you have trouble waking up or arriving places on time, this position is NOT for you. We require reliable, punctual students for this position.)
- Work with the event requester to make sure they know how to use the technology.
- Hang out at the event space until they have successfully started the event. (Plan to wait until 15 minutes after the event has started, unless otherwise instructed; Make sure event person knows how to get in touch with you should they require support)
- Return to the space at the end of the event to shut down the system, and/or breakdown and return any portable equipment.
Knowledge of the following is preferred, but not required:
Please note we will provide both written and in-person training to make sure you’re comfortable with the following:
- Windows and Mac
- Audio devices: Microphones, Speakers, Phones/MP3 players, Audio mixers, Audio cabling
- Video devices: Projectors and televisions, Cameras (webcams and video cameras), Video cabling
What we require from you:
- Friendly – you’ll be working as an ITSS representative, and we will expect you to have a friendly and helpful attitude, as the community will be depending on your help to keep events successfully run.
- Reliable – We will need people who take their commitments seriously. We will let you know the times an event starts, and how much time you should expect to need to set up. You will need to be on time for every event for which you’re scheduled.
Event support is a rewarding position that will have you working with many different members of the Arcadia community. We are looking for friendly, reliable students to help us manage weekend events, which will run from 4pm on Fridays until Sunday evenings.
Usually events don’t start too early, or run too late, but there will be exceptions. Events can range from a 1-hour meeting, to an all-day event such as Open Houses and Family Weekend.
We will give you as much notice as possible to let you know what weekends will have events, but there will be occasional events with little notice.
For weekends without scheduled events, we can give you 2-8 hours worth of technology-related tasks on campus so you’re still getting hours during slow weekends.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email helpdesk@arcadia.edu. Title your email with “Student Worker Event Support Question” and it will be routed to our event team, who will promptly reply to your question.
ITSS is a great place to work, with many great staff and student workers contributing to our success. Our hope is that by the time you graduate you’ll have a good deal of IT/AV knowledge and experience that will give you, and your resume, and leg-up when you start job hunting.
We look forward to hearing from you!
