Arcadia University – Learning Resource Network (LRN) Graduate Assistant Job Description
GA duties and responsibilities include:
- Oversee the operation of the LRN in the absence of professional staff.
- Resolve issues and answer general questions. Any issue that arises that cannot be resolved, call the Student Learning Coordinators or designated professional staff.
- Ensure that all tutors are present for their shifts,
- Be available for questions/concerns/issues that may come up for tutoring sessions and study groups,
- Monitor activity and assign rooms with the help of the LRN desk staff,
- Assign students who drop in for tutoring if the appropriate tutor is available,
- Observe tutoring sessions,
- Observe group tutoring sessions,
- Take responsibility for opening or closing tasks in the LRN Lab,
- Develop and post monthly canvas trainings as assigned for undergraduate tutoring staff in conjunction with the Student Learning Coordinators.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Be a graduate student in one of AU’s graduate programs.
- Good listening and oral communication skills.
- Takes and follows instructions willingly.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to empathize with students who are challenged by course material and/or learn differently.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred, but not required:
- Ability to tutor one or more subjects, particularly in biology or chemistry.
