Job Description:
REAL Certificate Peer Mentor Tutors provide academic, vocational, and social support to college students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities enrolled in the REAL Certificate program. Peer mentors tutor REAL students enrolled in 100 and 200 level undergraduate classes at Arcadia. Peer mentors spend social time with REAL students and assist REAL students in accessing university clubs, events, and internships. Mentors support inclusion on campus and may also provide support for program outreach.
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic support and tutoring for students in the REAL Certificate program
- Spend social time with students in the REAL Certificate program
- Provide executive functioning support by helping REAL Certificate students to follow their schedules and stay organized
- Complete and submit weekly observations/feedback forms
- Serve as a role model for students in the REAL Certificate program
- Assist REAL students in achieving vocational goals
- Support social inclusion on campus
- Provide support for program outreach by participating in open houses and tours

Requirements:
- Desire and ability to work with individuals with disabilities and diverse learning needs
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Skilled at using Canvas and Google Suite Applications
- Timeliness, reliability, and confidentiality
- Ability to problem-solve
- Complete and pass required Federal / PA Criminal Background Checks
- Complete REAL Certificate Training and Sign Confidentiality / Pledge of Understanding Agreements
Duration of this position:
REAL Peer mentors Tutor typically work 5-8 hours per week during the semester. Hours are the same every week and are usually scheduled Monday-Friday between 9am and 5pm. There are some opportunities for evening and weekend hours.
