Vacancies exist for Special Education Paraprofessionals – Teacher Assistants, Personal Care Assistants or Job Coaches to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit! This is a full-time position responsible for providing classroom and/or 1:1 support to K-12 students in our various Autistic Support, Emotional Support, Life Skills Support, Multiple Disabilities Support, and Transition classrooms. Locations for these positions are throughout Montgomery County.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required (must be willing to obtain the PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate within one year)
- Associates degree or higher OR completion of two (2) years of post-secondary education OR 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Background in special education/RBT preferred
- Knowledgeable and experienced in taking student data; experience utilizing direct-instruction programs, and experience using online learning systems.
- Ability to handle confidential information, enjoy working with students with disabilities, establish and maintain a rapport with students, and able to understand the needs and feelings of students.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, be courteous and able to deal effectively with people, able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to cope with needs and behavior patterns of children, able to withstand emotional stress, must have a warm, friendly, helpful personality.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions, ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, ability to read, write, and do simple computation.
- Ability to complete Safety Cares training and CPR/First Aid training.
- Ability to work independently, make work-related decisions, and exercise good judgement with student interaction.
- Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilize direct-instruction programs and online learning systems.
- Take teacher direction, support student behavior by proactively responding to behavior, implementing behavior plans as directed, etc.
- Communicate effectively with students, professionals, parents, supervisors, administrators and school district personnel.
- Interact positively with students, professionals, parents, supervisors, administrators and school district personnel.
- Assist teacher with the preparation of daily lesson assignments, including the preparation of materials, correction of assignments, and record keeping.
- Implementation when needed of the principles of applied behavior analysis and taking of student data.
- Assist the teacher with the organization of the classroom, and the preparation of materials and bulletin boards, which may include the lifting, and manipulation of books or materials.
- Assist teacher with individual and group instruction by implementing activities designed by the teacher.
- Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher.
- Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services.
- Work as a 1:1 assistant in the classroom as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7-7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year)
Hourly Rate:
- Starting at $19.18/hour for High School Diploma/Associate’s Degree
- Starting at $20.15/hour for Bachelor’s Degree
- $1.00/hour stipend for valid PA Teaching Certification
