Job Summary
Contributes to the care and safety of psychiatric patients under the direction and control of the psychiatric staff and patient orders. Assists in leading groups, including groups for leisure or socialization, exercise, stress management and relaxation skills, daily living skill building, and art therapy. May provide assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities that may include, but are not limited to, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to assigned resident. Assists the patient in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment. May completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, while creating a positive dining experience for the resident. Assists residents with meals and snacks, provides water and supplements as appropriate. May collect samples of blood and other fluids from patients after completing appropriate laboratory training. Must have good human relations and communication skills. Must be able to follow procedures and instructions given by the licensed clinical staff. Must be able to acquire a basic knowledge of patient care principles, medical terminology and equipment within the assigned service area.
Qualifications
Behavioral Health Tech:
Must have good human relations and communication skills. Must be able to follow procedures and instructions given by the licensed nurse. Must be able to acquire a basic knowledge of patient care principles, medical terminology and equipment within the assigned service area.
Whether working in Minnesota or North Dakota, certification is preferred. If working in North Dakota and not a Certified Nursing Assistant, must be registered as a Nurse Assistant through the North Dakota Department of Health within four months from the date of initial employment. Certification is required if designated by law (i.e. Home Care). If applicable to position, may require a valid class D driver’s license and good driving record.
Licensed Practical Nurse:
Must have graduated from an accredited school or college of nursing program leading to licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Associate’s degree in practical nursing is preferred. Specific services/positions may have additional education, training or experience requirements.
Requires current licensure as a practical nurse in the state/states of practice.
